Uwe Wascher, one of the co-founders of Polyscope, is to be honored by the Society of Plastics Engineers' European Automotive Division with its lifetime achievement award. The award will be formally handed over by SPE representatives on Monday 21 October at 14.00 hrs on the Polyscope booth in Hall 5/stand E08 at K 2013.

Corbion Purac has teamed up with esteemed partners in a number of industries, including packaging, automotive, home interiors and sporting goods, and will be showcasing the resulting applications in Hall 5, stand B22.

Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences Company, has signed an agreement with Petropol Polimeros, a leading engineering plastics compound producer in South America with more than 20 years' experience in engineering plastics. Under the terms of the agreement, which became effective on Oct 1st 2013, Petropol Polimeros will produce Akulon® polyamide 6 compounds, which DSM will market and sell to its customers throughout South America. Financial details were not released.

SUPLA, who announced plans for a 10 kT polymerization plant earlier this year, has developed optimized PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) compounds for the consumer electronics industry based on lactides from Corbion Purac. The launching application is the world's first bioplastic touch screen computer, developed in cooperation with Kuender, an OEM/ODM for many brand customers. The high gloss housing of this computer is made from high heat PLA. Corbion Purac, the global leader in lactic acid and lactides, will showcase this computer at K 2013.

DSM has tested and approved bio-based BDO (1,4-butanediol) made with Genomatica's process, for use in DSM's Arnitel® TPC (ThermoPlastic Copolyester). This is a next step in the development of a bio-based high performance portfolio and fully in line with DSM's front running position in a bio-based economy.

Innovia Films, a leading global manufacturer of Biofilms, and Corbion Purac, a global leader in lactic acid and lactides, are joining forces to develop PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) film that is both transparent and resistant to higher temperatures. High heat PLA was brought to market following dedicated research efforts by Corbion Purac. As a result, Innovia recognized an opportunity to work together to further develop a transparent, heat resistant PLA film.
