Milliken ClearTint® Liquid Polymeric Colorants Win FDA Approval for Clarified PP and HDPE Food Contact Applications
Ghent, Belgium - Milliken & Company today announced that its ClearTint® polymeric colorants have received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in food contact applications. All five ClearTint primaries, the basis for all the company’s ClearTint colors, have been approved under the FDA’s Food Contact Notification program. Milliken’s proactive efforts to secure agency approval, undertaken on behalf of customers, will benefit manufacturers of food containers in two important ways. First, customers can avoid the time and cost required to calculate use levels and conditions for non-migration of new ClearTint colorant blends, making it easier to adopt the latest color trends. Second, these high-end products help ensure safety in broader application areas, such as sippy cups and baby bottles and other repeat-use containers. FDA approval adds an important new benefit to the already compelling ClearTint value proposition.

Avery Dennison was recognized for the CleanFlake™ portfolio, a collection of label materials developed to advance the recycling of PET containers.

Producer DSM Dyneema unveiled DM20, based on its new Dyneema® Max Technology, at the OTC Offshore Technology Conference in 2012, for use in mooring ropes for offshore production platforms. Since then, the company has been carrying out extensive characterization studies on the lifetime and tensile properties of this ground-breaking fiber. DM20 is fully commercial, with a set of final specifications that exceed the data presented at OTC 2012.

This unique portfolio features multi-layer constructions in which a removable self-adhesive label covers a second label that remains fixed to the original surface. The label-on-label construction can be used for promotion, inventory management and work-in-process applications resulting in faster handling and lower cost compared to other label-on-label processes.
Ghent, Belgium - Milliken & Company today unveiled plans for a major capacity expansion of its Millad® NX™ 8000 clarifying agent for polypropylene (PP) at its Allen facility in Blacksburg, S.C. The company will double its production and add an additional redundant manufacturing line to ensure ample global supply of the product. This is Milliken’s most significant capital investment in its Millad clarifier business to date, underscoring the company’s continued leadership position in clarifier technology. The expansion is scheduled for completion in 2015.
