DSM and Starboard collaboration transforms discarded fishing nets from waste into high-end surfboard components
Royal DSM, a global science-based company in Nutrition, Health and Sustainable Living, and Starboard, a world leading Watersports company offering Paddle, Surf, Windsurf and Kiteboards, announced that they are collecting and upcycling discarded fishing nets to create a material for consumer goods such as surfboard components. In doing so the collaboration supports litter-free beaches, a healthier marine environment and creates a positive social impact for local communities in India.
A leading supplier of branded consumer goods to the grocery, out-of-home, specialized retail, pharmacy and bakery sectors, Orkla already had ruled out using standard reclosable film. As the Vossafår package’s bottom web is flexible, consumers would not easily be able to align the top film with the bottom web for reclosing.

At this week’s FachPack trade fair in Nuremberg, Mondi’s BarrierPack Recyclable will receive the 2018 German Packaging Award for the ‘sustainability’ category. Mondi sees increasing demand from customers everywhere for packaging solutions that are sustainable, reusable or recyclable.
SABIC, the world’s third largest diversified petrochemicals company, announced today that it is taking steps to establish certain elements of its Specialties business as a stand-alone business. The strategic purpose of this is to prepare the Specialties business to participate in further organic and inorganic growth, including a transaction under discussion with Clariant AG (“Clariant”), for which today both companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU would enable Clariant to create a new, “High Performance Materials” specialty chemicals business as an exceptional global platform for growth.
Mondi, the global packaging and paper group, will highlight BarrierPack Recyclable, its fully recyclable plastic laminate for pre-made pouches and FFS roll stock, along with other innovative products targeting the ice cream, pet food, and food and beverages categories at the upcoming FachPack trade fair in Germany.
