Sweden-based specialty-chemicals company, Perstorp, today introduced, Polygiene™ a new series of antiviral and antimicrobial molding compounds to make a wide variety of electrical devices such as light switches and switch plates; sanitary ware such as toilet seats; as well as items like door handles, hand rails, baby changing tables, lift buttons, pens and public phones “Safe to Touch.” A patent-pending formulation in the compounds is the first tested and proven to kill the SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV) on contact. It also kills a wide range of bacteria, yeasts, and molds. This new technology, combined with high levels of personal hygiene and a commitment to cleanliness best practices in such high-risk public places as hospitals, hotels, restaurants, and public transportation, as well as in private residences, can help reduce the risk of spreading disease.

DSM Engineering Plastics’ Arnitel-TPE monolithic thermoplastic polyetherester elastomer resin grade for coated film production is now available globally for breathable membranes. DSM’s Arnitel-TPE provides a breathable film—permeable by water vapor and gases—yet waterproof. In Europe, the Film Division of Lenzing AG (Lenzing, Austria) has chosen Arnitel-TPE as the best-in-class material for their roofing applications. With Arnitel film Lenzing can make an excellent film for roof underlinings and roof, wall and floor applications because of Arnitel’s high breathability and good water barrier.

This design was recently awarded as “Most Innovative Product” at the NeoCon Chicago 2003/USA, the major furniture exhibition in North America.

DSM Engineering Plastics has added two members to their Stanyl Team in Europe, as part of the company’s mission to grow the team’s resources in product management, customer service and technical support in Europe and worldwide. The new team members are Anne Bergsma, General Product Manager, Stanyl Europe and Paul Habets, Application Development Manager, Stanyl Europe. Stanyl polyamide (PA) is produced and marketed exclusively by DSM and is available worldwide.
