Precision gears made of Stanyl®, a high-performance polyamide 46 (PA46) resin from DSM Engineering Plastics, help a new joystick-based drive-by-wire system translate a driver’s steering movements into vehicle control. Called Joysteer®, the new system was designed to enable drivers with arm muscle disabilities get behind the wheel – or in this case, joystick – and drive by themselves. Joysteer will be demonstrated at Hannover Messe 2006, 24-28 April, a leading showplace for mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and the automotive sector.

Arnitel® EL250 thermoplastic polyether elastomer (TPE-E or copolyester ether elastomer, COPE), at 25 Shore D the softest available thermoplastic elastomer, has revealed itself as an important new material for applications requiring soft touch, pleasant hand feel or non-slip overmoulding. Arnitel EL250 uniquely combines both COPE performance with a softness that matches ultra-soft, but performance-challenged materials

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (April 10, 2006) Wabash Technologies selected Stanyl® for the transmission sensor used on heavy-duty full size and commercial trucks. Stanyl TW200F8 (40% glass reinforced polyamide 46) is used for the main body of the sensor and Stanyl TW271F6 (30% glass reinforced polyamide 46) is used for the rotor.

Urmond (NL), April 5 - Deep-sea installation of sub-sea hardware projects now have a high-technology alternative to traditional steel wire rope that offers a significantly longer lifespan, lighter weight and greater safety. Rope made with super-strong Dyneema® fiber from DSM has been shown to outperform steel wire rope when used to place heavy equipment at extreme ocean depths greater than 3km. Testing by TMT Technologies in Huntington Beach, CA, showed that an 80mm rope made with Dyneema®, the world’s strongest fiber, withstood more than twice the number of bend cycles of steel wire. (number of bend cycles where 50% of steel wire is discarded)

Urmond (NL), March 22 - Badinotti S.p.A., an Italian company well-known for excellence in aquaculture nets, has introduced a new predator net for rotection of farmed fish that is made with Dyneema® fiber from DSM Dyneema. The world’s strongest fiber, Dyneema® enables Badinotti’s predator nets to provide improved resistance to bites and damage from seals and seawolfs, compared to nets made from traditional nylon and polyester. The Dyneema® fiber offers an exceptionally low weight-to-strength ratio for reduced tension on mooring lines and easier handling. It also resists UV light and abrasion for extended useful life.
