21 Sept 2012
BERLIN, Germany, September 21, 2012 - Here at InnoTrans 2012 at the Berlin Messe, Hall 5.1, booth #228, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business is showcasing GRAMMER Railway Interior GmbH’s tough, new seat back shells and side panels for first-class railcars that comply with Europe’s upcoming CEN/TS 45545 harmonized standard for fire safety. Using SABIC’s new LEXAN™ FST (flame-smoke-toxicity) copolymer – which meets requirements for the highest hazard level (HL3) under CEN/TS 45545-2 – SABIC worked with GRAMMER on their development of the seating components two years ahead of the standard’s implementation. Importantly, the LEXAN FST copolymer can be moulded into GRAMMER’s existing tooling, avoiding significant capital costs and provides exceptionally high flow, which enables large parts to be injection molded with high-quality aesthetics. This milestone demonstrates SABIC’s commitment to working side-by-side with rail industry customers to meet their specific needs, while gaining a major competitive advantage and achieving their strategic business goals.
20 Sept 2012
BERLIN, Germany, September 20, 2012 - SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business today announced new LEXAN™ FST3403 (flame-smoke-toxicity) polycarbonate (PC) copolymer, the first thermoplastic solution for rail seating applications to meet the strictest fire safety requirements under the CEN/TS 45545 standard. Now commercial a full two years before this European standard goes into effect, new high-performance LEXAN FST3403 copolymer – developed specifically for seat back shells and side covers – achieved the highest possible hazard level rating (HL3) under CEN/TS 45545-2 R5. In addition to its exceptional heat release, smoke density and toxicity performance, documented by independent laboratory testing, the LEXAN FST copolymer delivers high flow properties for injection molding large parts with excellent aesthetics and impact strength. Today’s new product launch demonstrates SABIC’s commitment to meeting evolving public safety standards with tailored thermoplastic solutions that support the needs of transportation industry customers.
18 Sept 2012
BERLIN, Germany, September 18, 2012 - Anticipating the implementation of the pan-European norm for fire safety in rail interiors, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business has expanded its portfolio of high-performance material solutions by adding two new LEXAN™ sheet products to its already robust materials portfolio. These new products include LEXAN H6500 sheet, a new PC/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) sheet grade that complies with the upcoming CEN/TS 45545 harmonized standard, and LEXAN H6200 sheet, a new grade that complies with Germany’s DIN norm. Both products have been engineered to help rail customers meet growing demand for enhanced sustainability and advanced thermoplastic technologies with non-chlorinated and non-brominated flame retardance that enhance the design and development of rail interior applications. On display here at InnoTrans 2012 at Berlin Messe, Hall 5.1, booth #228, these industry-leading materials, demonstrate SABIC’s understanding of rail industry priorities and its commitment to proactively develop innovative new solutions to help its customers’ ever-changing needs.
