To meet the high performance requirements of HDTV camera systems, Belden has introduced Brilliance® 7804Ex. These hybrid fiber optical cables are designed to surmount over-heating problem experienced in outside HDTV broadcasting. This is particularly common with black cables in direct sunlight because their internal resistance can be reduced to below critical level causing the camera to shut down in case of short circuit.

Borealis, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, announces the new structure of its Executive Board. On January 1, Mark Garrett officially took over from John Taylor as Chief Executive and Chairman of the Executive Board. He is joined by two long-time Borealis executives, Herbert Willerth, who will continue as Executive Vice President (EVP) of Operations and Henry Sperle, who, after many years running the Hydrocarbons business, takes on the new EVP position for the Middle East and Asia. The two new members who have recently joined the board are Martin Kuzaj, EVP of the newly formed Base Chemicals business group and Daniel J. Shook, Chief Financial Officer. Currently, the EVP position for the Polyolefins (PO) business group is vacant, and until a new executive is appointed, the Chief Executive will oversee this part of the organisation.

Curtis Hansford, of Concept Cables in Blandford Forum, Dorset, has won the Distrupol PIC (Product Information Centre) prize draw and is the lucky recipient of two tickets to New York. He received his prize from John Brenchley of Distrupol at the Concept Cables offices on 4 October 2007. Curtis’ name was picked during late September by John Whitehead, deputy editor at Plastics & Rubber Weekly, from the hundreds of new registrants to Distrupol’s PIC on-line materials selection database since March 2007.

URMOND (NL), 28 September 2007 - DSM Dyneema today announced its ultra-strong, lightweight Dyneema® polyethylene fiber was chosen by Delta-Utec, one of the world's leading experts in the field, to be used in a swinging tether experiment in space. The experiment entailed the attempted return of a capsule from space without the need for rocket propulsion. The “Space Mail” delivery of the second Young Engineers’ Satellite (YES2) capsule – which was lofted into space on Sept. 14 – made use of the unique qualities and performance of Dyneema® fiber. The total tether had a length of 30 km, with a weight of only 5.5 kg. Also, only a 0.5 mm thickness was required, due to the exceptional strength of Dyneema®.
