DSM breaks ground on new Materials Sciences research building in Sittard-Geleen
Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, today held the official groundbreaking event for construction of a new materials sciences research building on the Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geleen, the Netherlands. The new facility, which is scheduled to open in 2014, forms part of an investment of around €100 million that DSM is making in three new R&D facilities in Sittard-Geleen and in Delft (also in the Netherlands).

DSM DYNEEMA ACTS AGAINST PATENT INFRINGER
The Netherlands, 21 November 2012 - DSM Dyneema, the producer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber branded as Dyneema®, has again successfully defended its intellectual property covering its very high strength and lightweight polyethylene fiber based products. DSM Dyneema last week reached a settlement with a company manufacturing and trading in fiber based panels for ballistic protective products. The offending company, whose name is not being made public, signed settlement conditions drawn up by DSM Dyneema, after the case was brought before the “Tribunal de Grande Instance” in Paris.

SABIC VALOX™ Resin Helps Crown General Motors Winner of SPE® Automotive Innovation Award in Performance & Customization Category
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands, November 20, 2012 - SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business is applauding General Motors Co. (GM) for being named the winner in the Performance & Customization (Aftermarket) category of the Society of Plastics Engineers’ (SPE®) 42nd-annual Automotive Innovation Awards Competition. GM’s winning application is the carbon composite air extractor located on the hood of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 sports car. This unique carbon fiber prepreg composite part pulls air through the lower grille and out through the hood, cooling the engine, increasing efficiency and reducing lift in the process. The part includes a water deflector molded from SABIC’s VALOX™ resin, which delivered the high mechanical and thermal performance needed in this demanding under-hood environment. The successful use of VALOX resin in this application not only allowed GM to bring the carbon fiber prepreg design to life, but also provides further evidence of SABIC’s proven track record and ongoing commitment to enable meaningful, high-end automotive solutions for its customers and the industry.

Houston, Texas (USA), November 20, 2012 – Clariant Oil Services UK Ltd raised more than £1000.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support by participating in the organization’s fundraising event called “World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” on September 28. Clariant employees also donated baked goods, crafts, books and more to Macmillan.

Le richieste organolettiche dei clienti sono molto restrittive nel settore dell’acqua minerale naturale, e possono essere soddisfatte da SABIC® HDPE CC860V, specificamente sviluppato per questa applicazione. Nel frattempo, i produttori di chiusure su misura per prodotti come le bevande energetiche, saranno particolarmente interessati in un altro recente sviluppo di SABIC, il polipropilene random SABIC® PP Qrystal QR674K, che rappresenta un balzo in avanti in termini di lavorabilità, rispetto alle precedenti generazioni di PP.

La joint-venture Songwon Baifu Chemicals è ora pienamente attiva negli antiossidanti tioesteri
Ulsan, Corea – 20 novembre 2012 – Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd. (www.songwon.com) e Tangshan Baifu Chemical Co. Ltd. hanno formalizzato il loro rapporto di joint-venture. La nuova società è stata chiamata Songwon Baifu Chemicals (Tangshan) Co., Ltd. ed ha iniziato la sua attività il 1 luglio 2012. Dotata di una capacità produttiva di 8.000 tonnellate all’anno di antiossidanti tioesteri e della necessaria autonoma disponibilità di intermedi fondamentali, Songwon Baifu Chemicals (Tangshan) Co., Ltd. è ora pienamente integrata nei processi operativi globali di Songwon.
