Belden CDT introduces new cables for Broadcasting Applications
Belden CDT introduces three cable innovations for use in broadcasting applications: CatSnake™, Brilliance® Assemblies and the smallest AES/EBU multicore in the market. In addition, the company demonstrates the benefits of BananaPeel® - Composite Cables — Without a Jacket!, and HD format transmission distances.
Brilliance CatSnake (1305A)
New Brilliance CatSnake (1305A) is a mobile Category 5e UTP cable ideal for use in patching Ethernet or digital audio/video formats . Using Belden’s patented Bonded-Pair design, these extremely rugged cables are highly suitable for use in high traffic areas in a broadcast studio or in any type of tactical field deployable digital audio/video installation.
Brilliance Broadcast audio and video cables assemblies
Belden CDT offers a complete range of assemblied Brilliance Broadcast camera and video cables. The product range includes HD-ready cables and connectors, including

Small and flexible AES/EBU multicore
Belden CDT's new BE46266 High Flex AES/EBU Digital Audio multicore cable is a high-performance, shielded, twisted-pair cable that not only meets the latest AES/EBU (Audio Engineering Society/European Broadcast Union) standards, but also provides unsurpassed performance for traditional analog audio microphone applications. Belden's braid shield is key to the flexible cable which offers high flexibility, long flex life and excellent EMI/RFI protection. With the 26 Gage (0.14 mm²) construction it will fit the 25-pin D-sub connector without stripping off the outer cable jacket. It features a highly flexible purple matt PVC jacket.
BananaPeel Hi-Res Component Coax Bundle
Belden’s new Mini High-Resolution component video cables are designed for high resolution VGA on large screens, HDTV, Hi-Res CAD, animation, editing and special effects. Serie 1281 is an enhanced version of traditional RGB cables and feature 25 AWG solid copper center conductors for lower attenuation and easier termination, flexible PVC jackets and high frequency Beldfoil® foil shields that are used in combination with Belden’s unique interlocked serve copper shield for 100% coverage. This unique shielding design also prevents the shields from bunching up when flexed, yet the shield is easier to comb out than a full braid.
Jacketed RGB cables are also notoriously difficult to strip for termination. Banana Peel RGBs overcome this objection.Banana Peel composite cables feature a patent-pending design that affixes the individual cables to a centre spline, eliminating the need for an outer jacket. Banana Peel technology was developed by Belden to meet the needs of the installer to save time and decrease labour costs. Without the overall jacket, a whole step in the termination process has been removed, plus the individual cable components are all instantly identifiable (the individual cables are color-coded and the print legends are immediately visible). In addition to labour-saving benefits, BananaPeel Hi-Res Component Coax also has a smaller outer-diameter and is therefore more flexible than the jacketed version.
