Belden expands the ControlBus cable line
Belden, a leading international supplier of signal transmission solutions, has expanded the ControlBus cable line with a continuously corrugated aluminium armoured product. The new cables meet the requirements necessary for the operation of ControlNet factory floor systems.
ControlNet is a high speed, serial communication system that provides for a time-critical exchange of information between complex control devices such as programmable logic controllers, HMIs and PC-based controllers. The system operates in a totally deterministic and predictable manner, allowing the various devices and controllers on the network to communicate at a precise and predetermined point in time.
The new ‘IndustrialTuff’ ControlBus cables are low-loss RG-6/U type coaxes. They are designed to meet the high speed time-critical requirements necessary for the operation of ControlNet factory floor systems. New is a ControlBus cable with continuously corrugated aluminium armouring for added protection in harsh environments.
The cables are quad-shielded for maximum signal integrity and run length. All are sweep tested to ensure that Return Loss, and other critical performance factors, meet the requirements of the network’s physical layer specification.
They can be supplied with a CPE jacket with aluminium or steel interlocked armouring. Variations of the cables are also available for different applications, environments and identification purposes.
Special features of ControlNet
ControlNet can support up top 48 nodes at a bus speed of 5Mbit/sec on a total end-to-end distance of 250m. The bus topology can be star, tree and bus or in any combination. The time delay together with a maximum end-to-end distance of 30+ km represent the only limiting factors on the number of repeaters that can be used.
In the ControlNet system, the network devices and controllers communicate and operate at a predetermined time and for a specific duration. This operation is different to traditional ‘broadband’ where communication efforts only take place when the network has room for the communication.
Erik Holzwilder, Belden’s Market Manager Industrial EMEA says, ‘The big advantage is that ControlNet benefits from the new ControlBus cable line because it ensures that signal transmission is uncorrupted and operates at high speed. This guarantees maximum system performance.’
