DSM Expands Range of High Productivity, Environmentally Responsible Energy Curable Products
Waalwijk (NL), 02 April 2009: DSM NeoResins+ today announced a number of new product introductions at the European Coatings Show in Nuremburg, (Germany) that significantly extends its range of energy curable (UV/EB) oligomer products.
DSM now offers the industry’s broadest portfolio of all major types of UV oligomers, including polyester acrylate, urethane acrylate, epoxy acrylate and acrylated acrylate, waterborne polyurethane and aliphatic urethane dispersions, and solid acrylics.
Energy curable (UV/EB) coatings are cured by ultraviolet light (UV) or electron beam (EB), which are radiant energy sources. These “radcure” coatings are 100% solid, solvent-free materials that process extremely quickly and are much less toxic than traditional solvent-based systems. They create strong bonds with varied substrates resulting in exceptional durability and reliable field performance. Energy curable systems therefore offer improved productivity gains, cost-savings and environmental benefits.
The latest DSM product additions include:
NeoRad® R-1500 is the only real soft feel UV-curing product in the market. It can be used as UV curing overprint varnish for plastic, giving a soft feel in combination with faster cure and better resistances.
NeoRad® P-90 is a new polyester acrylate oligomer based on an innovative design, which in the graphic arts markets replaces mixtures of epoxy acrylate/urethane acrylate and monomers, thus simplifying the formulations and reducing system cost, while having excellent elasticity, resistance and gloss.
NeoRad® U-30W is a new UV curable aliphatic urethane acrylate with superior wood highlighting. It has wood wetting and very good adhesion suitable for wood primers and stains. Unique in the industry, NeoRad® U-30W is also water-dilutable, which enables the viscosity to be easily adjusted with water. Other products need to be viscosity-adjusted by mixing in UV curing monomers, which are the most dangerous part of any formulation. NeoRad U-30W can do completely without monomers which is a major advantage.
NeoRad® E-30 is a UV curable epoxy acrylate based on 60% renewable material (Soya oil), and with excellent pigment wetting properties for use in pigmented UV coatings.
NeoRad® P-10 is a new UV curable polyester acrylate with a very well balanced combination of properties. NeoRad® P-10 has very good chemical and wear resistance properties combined with good flexibility and is suitable as a general purpose resin for UV clear and pigmented coatings. It has been balanced to combine optimal properties with a reasonable cost structure.
