DSM Engineering Plastics to Showcase Sustainable Solutions at K 2010
DSM Engineering Plastics, one of the world's leading suppliers of engineering thermoplastics, will exhibit a wide array of environmentally responsible solutions at the K 2010 tradeshow in Düsseldorf, 27 October – 3 November, 2010, hall 6 stand number B11. DSM’s solutions offer value-added features combined with enhanced sustainability to meet customers’ needs for high-performance, “green” alternatives to traditional plastics. The company’s strategy targets recyclability, elimination of hazardous substances, use of bio-based materials and overall reduction of carbon footprint in manufacturing, distribution and usage.
DSM Engineering Plastics is a knowledgeable and experienced provider of solutions to target industry segments, and emphasizes collaborative work with customers for an ideal partnership.
“Environmental initiatives, whether dictated by regulations or undertaken voluntarily to support corporate stewardship, demand new materials that maintain or exceed previous performance,” said Michael Koch, Business Unit Director, DSM Engineering Plastics Europe. “We have taken a multi-faceted approach to sustainable thermoplastics, yet all our solutions share the same goal – to protect the planet while delivering the highest performance and value to our customers.”
An Expanding Eco Portfolio
At K 2010, DSM Engineering Plastics will introduce its newest sustainable material:
Arnitel® Eco, a thermoplastic copolyester elastomer that utilizes up to 50 percent bio-based content. The use of renewable materials helps reduce the carbon footprint of this solution by up to 50% cradle to gate compared to conventional, oil-based resins. High-performance Arnitel ECO is appropriate for applications in the consumer electronics, sports & leisure and automotive interior.
Commercialization of another sustainable solution, Akulon® RC, is being announced at the show. This separate Akulon polyamide 6 portfolio utilizes post-industrial recycled materials to reduce environmental impact. Included will be RC grades of Akulon® Ultraflow®, whose exceptional flow and lower processing temperatures help to reduce energy costs.
Two other new solutions – Akulon® Diablo PA6 and Stanyl® Diablo PA46 – support the environment by helping the automotive industry reduce vehicle weight to conserve fuel and cut carbon emissions. As replacements for metal, these materials deliver outstanding short- and long-term heat resistance for demanding air and fuel duct applications such as under-the-bonnet components.
In addition, DSM Engineering Plastics will display other recent product innovations for environmentally responsible design. These include Stanyl® CR halogen-free high-temperature PA and Arnitel® XG, an eco-friendly thermoplastic copolyester elastomer replacement for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in wire and cable applications. EcoPaXX™, a high-performance polyamide that is carbon neutral from “cradle to gate,” is DSM Engineering Plastics’ first bio-based polymer.
“DSM Engineering Plastics has the knowledge, resources, experience and commitment to meet customers’ requirements for sustainable solutions,” said Fredric Petit, Director, Sustainability for DSM Engineering Plastics. “We are continuously developing and launching new eco materials that address a wide range of issues, from energy conservation to carbon emissions reduction to safety. This large and expanding portfolio gives customers many choices in designing and manufacturing greener products, while ensuring the superior performance they need for a competitive advantage.”
DSM Engineering Plastics leads the market in corporate sustainability efforts. The company holds the number-one position on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the chemical industry sector; is a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development; and has a policy of continuous improvement of its eco footprint.
