New website gives packaging designers, brandowners a “handle” on Eastar® copolyesters
Eastar copolyesters provide ability to make clear plastic bottles without sacrificing clarity for design freedom
Eastman Chemical Company’s new Web microsite, www.ClearHandleware.com, provides insight into the innovative design possibilities of Eastar® plastics for handleware and other custom containers for foods, beverages and other consumer packaged goods. The microsite educates packaging designers and brand owners on the features and benefits of Eastar copolyesters in new product development, creating the opportunity for brand differentiation against competitors in the crowded retail environment. Eastar handleware plastics are copolyesters that provide exceptional design freedom, clarity, gloss, toughness and chemical resistance in the manufacture of containers via extrusion blow molding (EBM).
“Our new microsite educates users in simple, non-technical language on the benefits of Eastar handleware plastics,” says Courtland Jenkins, global market development manager, food & consumer packaging, Eastman. “Numerous companies have switched from other packaging materials as a way to stand out to consumers at the point of sale. Eastar copolyesters bridge the gap between packaging materials that lack superior clarity—such as high-density polyethylene, PVC and polypropylene—and clear packaging materials that limit design freedom.”
www.ClearHandleware.com shows examples of how brand owners and packaging designers have developed custom-shaped applications that have proved successful in the marketplace. For example, Freshco Ltd. introduced Indian River Select juices in three package sizes, all extrusion blow molded from Eastar copolyesters by CKS Packaging: 64-ounce clear handled containers; 1-liter carafe-style containers that consumers can reuse; and 16-ounce single-serve bottles.
Containers made of Eastar polyesters are manufactured through extrusion blow molding, a one-stage process, in comparison to other multistage processes that are more capital-intensive, that allows for shorter production runs and complex bottle designs.
