Continuing a winning partnership: Natura uses Eastman’s Glass Polymer™ in the new packaging of the Chronos line
CAPELLE A/D IJSSEL, THE NETHERLANDS - Brazilian cosmetics manufacturer Natura has selected The Glass Polymer™ for their new version of Chronos Spilol anti aging creams. For this particular application, the material selected was Eastar® (AN014) copolyester - one in the range of The Glass Polymer copolyester resins made by Eastman Chemical Company.
This is not the first time that Natura has chosen to work with Eastman materials. Three years ago, Eastar AN004, of the same Glass Polymer family, was used in the packaging of the Kaiak perfume. Last year, Natura decided to use Eastar AN014 for the cap of the Due perfume. As one of the first companies to introduce The Glass Polymer in the Brazilian market for the manufacture of sophisticated packaging for cosmetics, Natura has maintained a close relationship Eastman.
The success and consolidation of this partnership has led to the use of The Glass Polymer for the new version of the Chronos Spilol line. According to Gabriel Crosta, Business Manager Eastman Specialty Plastics in Mercosul, the quality of its end products has helped Natura to find customers in a number of countries. The quality of our materials have made a significant contribution by delivering the advantages offered by this family of Eastman’s copolyesters.
Júlio Neves, Packaging Research and Development Manager for Natura Innovation Nucleus, describes the selection of a raw material. "We were looking for innovative packaging, capable of adding value to the product and, at the same time, complementing the total evolution of the Chronos line. The selection process involved several preliminary tests with different resins." To ensure that all of Natura's needs were met, the company decided to use pilot moulds before selecting Eastman’s Glass Polymer. Here, a major effort was made by Augros, the company responsible for the project and the execution of the moulds.
For Renato Wakimoto, Natura’s Packaging Research and Development Manager, the intrinsic quality of Eastman’s Glass Polymer assured the integrity of the product during storage, transportation and use. Wakimoto also points out the concern of the company when it comes to the ecodesign question. During the research and development of packaging material, Natura places a strong emphasis to the four principles of ecodesign: trimming, recycling, reduction and reutilisation of packaging material.
