GE ADVANCED MATERIALS DRIVES HIGH-PERFORMANCE DESIGN FREEDOM FOR COSMETIC PACKAGING

USED IN COMBINATION, XYLEX™ RESIN, LNP’S THERMOCOMP® HSG COMPOUND AND VISUALFX® RESIN TECHNOLOGIES RAISE THE BAR ON CHEMICAL RESISTANCE, STRENGTH AND FLOW

BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands — April 27, 2004 — GE Advanced Materials, a division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), today launched an innovative material solution into the cosmetic packaging industry that provides unprecedented flow and design freedom along with an extensive selection of visual effects.

“GE’s proprietary technology for cosmetic packaging allows designers an added level of freedom to create a quality look and feel that will attract cosmetic consumers,” said

GE Advanced Materials Industry Manager for Performance Packaging, Rob de Jong. “Using this unique packaging solution, cosmetic designers can create eye-catching and stylish designs that stand up to cosmetic solvents.”

This solution, which combines XYLEX™ resin and Visualfx® resin technologies, offers the best qualities of traditional polyesters and polycarbonates, such as chemical resistance, transparency and clarity, high impact strength and high temperature resistance. It also provides a new level of versatility to bring superior ductility and flow. This unique combination is available with GE’s extensive portfolio of visual effects.

LNP’S THERMOCOMP® HSG compound provides designers with a heavier feel that communicates high quality. Working with GE Advanced Materials’ customer innovation center representatives, customers can create a custom-tailored specialty compound with a range of specific gravities to choose from. THERMOCOMP HSG compounds are injection moldable, colorable, platable and, as lead-free materials, more environmentally sensitive than many resin alternatives. The compound is available with a variety of base resins including ABS, PBT, PP, PA and TPU, providing customizable property profiles.

With GE’s patented Visualfx resin technology, designers can add a sparkle, shimmer or metallic quality to their packages. Visualfx resins create colorful and exceptionally rich looking parts without the need for costly secondary paint and coating operations. Designers can choose to take advantage of the extensive GE selection, offering more than 300,000 colors and effects, or work with color specialists to develop their own unique color and texture. Visualfx resins are available for injection molding of solid parts or as a film material for use in in-mold decoration applications to achieve unique multi-layer effects and flow line free appearance.

GE style does not stop with the product package. The same materials that make outstanding packages can also be used as excellent point-of-purchase display materials, allowing innovative and fashion-forward display designs to catch consumers’ attention as they look through the many products on the beauty department shelves.
