HONEYWELL MARKS 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF SELLING REFRIGERANTS IN EUROPE AT THE IKK 2004 TRADE FAIR IN NUREMBERG, GERMANY

BRUSSELS, Belgium, Oct. 13, 2004 – Honeywell celebrated 10 years of selling refrigerants in Europe at the IKK 2004 International Trade Fair for Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation being held Nuremberg, Germany, from Oct. 13 to 15.

Over the past 10 years, Honeywell, a global leader in hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) technology, has expanded its presence in the European refrigerants market and developed a network of more than 40 distributors serving both Europe and the Middle East.

Honeywell offers a wide range of refrigerants as well as hands-on services and extensive support to help customers convert from systems based on hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) refrigerants. HCFC refrigerants are being phased out in Europe and throughout the world under the terms of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, a landmark international agreement first signed in 1987.

“Honeywell demonstrated its commitment to helping customers and the environment through its pioneering innovations in the development of HFC technology,” said James Harris, Honeywell’s European commercial director for refrigerants. “We have also made significant investments in our production facilities for HFC-125, a major component of alternative refrigerant blends, and HFC-245fa, a leading replacement for HCFC blowing agents in insulating foam sold under the Enovate® 3000 brand. We continue to invest in research and development to bring additional innovative refrigerant solutions to our customers.”

One of the most significant Honeywell innovations has been AZ-20, also know as R-410A, a 50/50 blend of HFC-125 and HFC-32. This blend was invented and patented by Honeywell in the early 1990s and today nearly all major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide have adopted R-410A as the long-term replacement for HCFC-22 in residential and light-commercial air-conditioning.

In addition to being more environmentally friendly, AZ-20/R-410A has superior thermal and heat transfer properties, because of its good heat transfer properties, its low-pressure drop, and its high cooling capacity, OEMs can design smaller units with higher energy efficiency. This is particularly important because of pending European regulations aimed at boosting energy efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. AZ-20 /R-410A is also a non-flammable and non-toxic fluid.

Honeywell’s IKK presentation will also feature its HFC-245fa as a low-pressure working fluid for numerous heat transfer applications. These include waste heat recovery and turbine fluid for combined heat and power systems, Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC), and cogeneration applications. Honeywell’s booth at IKK is located in Hall 4, stand 516.

Enovate 3000, or HFC-245fa, is a non-ozone depleting, non-flammable and non-toxic blowing agent used for wall spray insulation as well as insulation for refrigerators. Spray foam made with Enovate 3000 offers the highest R-value of any traditional wall insulation, leading to decreased energy consumption.
