(Photo: Belden, PR183) Belden has announced the release of HiLCOS 8.50, a new version of its established WLAN firmware from the Hirschmann™ product range. Like its predecessors, this firmware is fully compliant with the European 5 GHz standard (EN 301893 V1.5.1). New to this firmware version, however, is that it permits access points and clients to be integrated into Profinet and Ethernet/IP networks without requiring additional management software, thus allowing flexible administration. In the future, HiLCOS 8.50 firmware will be offered as a standard for all devices in the Hirschmann™ BAT54 and BAT300 series. In addition, the firmware will also be available as a free-of-charge download from "www.e-catalog.beldensolutions.com" enabling customers to update older access points and clients.

Installable on all access points and clients of the BAT series, this is currently the only firmware on the market that supports fully-integrable and easy-to-manage WLAN networks in both Profinet and EtherNet/IP networks. Further highlights include BAT300 access points that support the IEEE802.11n (300MBit/s) standard and BAT WLAN controllers that allow simple operation of up to 100 access points. Also on dislay will be a large range of antennas, including models that support MIMO technology (multiple input, multiple output). Another highlight is the Industrial HiVision suite of network management software, which can now also integrate WLAN components.

Belden has extended its range of Lumberg Automation™ products to include new Profibus DP connectors. These connectors each have a D-Sub and M12 interface, and are offered with 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlets. All versions support data rates of up to 12 Mbit/s and feature a compact die-cast zinc housing with test socket and activatable terminating resistor. They also boast quick-connection technology that enables Profibus DP devices to be connected with M12 Profibus cord sets simply and securely without the use of tools. The advantage of this, for example, is reduced downtimes of machinery and equipment when faults occur, increasing production efficiency.

A range of solutions for connecting terminals equipped with a serial interface to Ethernet networks

(Photo: Belden, PR179) Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product range to include four IOLAN DS series converters from Perle Systems, which allow terminals equipped with a serial interface to be connected to Ethernet networks. All of the models have software-selectable RS 232/422/485 interfaces as well as an Ethernet port – or two Ethernet ports in the case of the rack variant. In addition, they support various protocols for serial data transmission, including Modbus TCP Gateway, Raw Serial Data over UTP, IPv4 and IPv6. The Perle Device Manager makes configuring the devices easy. The housings are made of metal, and have fanless cooling. What is more, all models meet safety (IEC 60950-1) and EMC standards (EN 61000). As the four converters have a different number of serial interfaces as well as different bandwidths, security functions, protection standards, temperature ranges, and special approvals, it is easy for customers to find the ideal solution for their application – whether it is in a factory, in process and building automation or in the energy sector.

AS-Interface modules with encapsulated PUR housing and high signal density

Belden has introduced two new AS-Interface modules from its Lumberg Automation™ product range, one of which can be coupled to the actuator/sensor network with round cables, the other with flat cables. For this purpose, the modules feature either an integrated T-piece functionality or piercing contacts. Both versions are slave modules with four digital inputs for two- or three-wire sensors and four digital outputs for standard actuators. Two inputs and two outputs are Y-connected. Since both modules support the latest AS-Interface profile in accordance with AS-Interface specification V3.0, up to 1,000 digital inputs/outputs can be connected. Compared to the previous versions, signal density has therefore more than doubled. What is more, the new modules feature a fully encapsulated PUR housing that is highly resistant to cooling lubricants from machine tools, for example.

Flexible network connection for intelligent automation devices

The new module – which is available as a Profinet I/O device, EtherNet/IP adapter device or EtherCAT slave controller – grants Ethernet access to intelligent automation devices, or enables them to be integrated in network management systems. All models of the EEM are equipped with a switch for two external Fast Ethernet ports, and one internal port to the host CPU. The latter, which has a 50-pole plug connector, can be used to connect the host CPU of the automation device to the CPU of the EEM. Since data communication is via a field-programmable gate array (FPGA), the functionality of the EEM can be adapted to meet customer requirements or technological change without the need to alter the hardware. This makes the new module a practical and versatile option for connecting intelligent automation devices such as motor starters, frequency converters, or sensors to Ethernet networks.

Robust unmanaged 10-port switch

This switch, which also supports automation protocols such as Profinet, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, possesses ten twisted-pair ports (10/100 BASE-TX) with vibration-proof M12 connections with D-coding. The unit’s additional features include a robust, fire-proof, die-cast housing, protection class IP54 and a temperature range from 40° to +70°C. This switch also complies with all relevant industry standards and is approved for use in road and rail vehicles and ships. This makes it particularly suitable for use in small-scale networks in transport, manufacturing and process automation where management functions are not required.
