STP-POLIMERI DEPENDS ON HEAT RESISTANT STANYL® PA46 FROM DSM FOR PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRIAL BRUSH MONOFILAMENT

Monofilament from Società Trasformazione Polimeri s.r.l., Rescaldina (MI) Italy, made from Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46) from DSM Engineering Plastics, stands up to the strength, durability and high heat requirements of professional and industrial brushes.Società Trasformazione Polimeri s.r.l., Rescaldina (MI) Italy, finds benefit from the high heat resistance and predictable bending stiffness of Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46) in the production of monofilament for industrial and professional brushes. This monofilament must retain strength in elevated temperatures, even when subjected to water, oils, chemicals and solvents.

STANYL® PA46 TAKES ON NEW LIFE – IN FIBRES AND FILMS

Airbag sewing thread application04 December, 2006 – Stanyl®, a high-heat polyamide 4,6 (PA46) resin from DSM Engineering Plastics, is adding a new market segment, fibre and film, to its existing broad portfolio of injection moulded, high-tech and high-heat engineered applications. As with injection moulded designs, Stanyl-based fibre and film benefit from the material’s unusually high crystallinity and resulting extraordinary mechanical properties, as well as its high melting point. In fibre and film, Stanyl adds a new side: it can be soft and supple.

DSM STANYL® PA46 IN RUBBER-CLAD USES OFFERS MORE DESIGN FREEDOM, LOWER COSTS THAN METAL-TO-RUBBER

Stanyl® polyamide 4, 6 (PA46) is finding increasing use in critical components that at one time were made from rubber bonded to medal. Applications include automotive strut mounts, electromechanical anti-vibration and anti-shock mounts, energy-absorption components and exhaust hangers.Sittard, The Netherlands, November 24, 2006 – Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46) from DSM Engineering Plastics is finding increasing use as replacement for metal in assemblies that have traditionally been made of metal and rubber. Designers gain new design freedom as well as reduced production costs by using Stanyl as the rigid component in such applications as automotive strut mounts, electromechanical anti-vibration and anti-shock mounts, energy-absorption components and exhaust hangers.

The new plant is expected to come on stream in Q2 2008. The major proportion of the production is targeted at packaging film production companies in Asia-Pacific. The investment will amount to several tens of millions of USD.

DSM to build two new engineering plastic plants at Chemelot site, Geleen (NL)

DSM has decided to build two new plants at the Chemelot site in Geleen, the Netherlands, to produce Stanyl® polyamide 46 (PA 46), a unique DSM material, and Stamylan® UH. Both plants will double existing production capacity.Royal DSM N.V. today announces that it has decided to construct two new manufacturing facilities at its Chemelot site in Geleen, the Netherlands. DSM is making these investments in response to excellent market growth for two of the company’s top specialty products, Stanyl® polyamide 46 and Stamylan® UH ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, which is used among other things as a raw material for Dyneema® high strength fibers. The new Stanyl® plant and the new Stamylan® facility, which will each double existing production capacity, are scheduled to come on line in 2008. The total investment will be around EUR 100 million.

ARNITEL® TPEE BRINGS PERFORMANCE CONSISTENCY AND LONG SERVICE LIFE TO DUREL RAILWAY SPRINGS

Durel® springs consist of tori of Arnitel® TPEE separated by steel disks and centered on a guiding rod. Joint development between Durel GmbH and DSM Engineering Plastics has resulted in a range of railway side buffer springs, draft gears and, in more demanding safety applications, crash buffers capable of absorbing large amounts of energy. The designs combine metal with Arnitel® thermoplastic polyether elastomer (TPEE). Acting as a spring, Arnitel TPEE absorbs and releases energy in predictable ways over a long service life, helping trains to start, accelerate, decelerate and stop smoothly. Unlike metal springs, Arnitel TPEE does not rust, deteriorate, fracture or lose its springiness. In contrast to rubber, Arnitel TPEE does not lose its ability to act as a spring over time -- the DSM material has a field life of at least 20 years versus 5-10 for rubber.

SENSOR HARNESSES USED IN JET ENGINE TESTING DEPEND ON THE HEAT STRENGTH & DURABILITY OF STANYL®

Cost-effective production of thinwall connectors for jet engine test harnesses benefit from the heat resistance and durability of Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46). Such harnesses must withstand extremes of vibration and temperatureSensor systems for jet engine testing – critical to development and qualification -- face tough conditions, ranging from extreme vibration to broad fluctuation in temperature. Connectors for the many harnesses in one manufacturer’s systems are made of Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46), taking advantage of the cost effectiveness, design freedom, heat resistance, dimensional stability, stiffness and durability of Stanyl grades.
