NEW HIGH FLOW AND HIGH PRODUCTIVITY MATERIALS FROM DSM

Akulon UltraflowDSM Engineering Plastics has introduced a range of High Flow & High Productivity materials, which enable significant system cost reductions, when compared to standard resins. Added value for the customer is generated by these materials via shorter production cycles leading to lower processing costs per part, greater design freedom leading to lower material and/or processing costs per part and more room for innovation, such as metal replacement. To demonstrate the potential for cost reduction and annual savings, DSM Engineering Plastics is able to provide customers with Product Cost Analysis spreadsheet tools.

SKYMARK USES NEW ARNITEL® VT THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMERS
IN SKYAIR® AND SKYAIR® XT BREATHABLE MEMBRANES

Skymark Performance Films Limited (Scunthorpe, U.K.), employs Arnitel® VT thermoplastic ether ester block copolymer elastomer (TEE-E) film technology materials from DSM Engineering Plastics, in Skymark’s breathable SKYAIR® and SKYAIR® XT membranes. SKYAIR® and SKYAIR® XT membranes offer different levels of moisture vapour transmission rate and when laminated to fabric can be used in recreational, sports, medical and construction applications which are waterproof and windproof, yet remain “breathable”.

NEW HALOGEN FREE FLAME RETARDANT MATERIALS

Arnitel electro engine cablesIn order to minimize environmental impact, whilst at the same time complying with the latest environmental regulations, DSM Engineering Plastics has recently introduced several new, halogen free flame retardant (FR) materials for use in a range of applications.

SIGNIFICANT SYSTEM COST REDUCTIONS IN RUBBER REPLACEMENT

Arnitel® is ideally suited for automotive applications In a recent clean air duct application where Arnitel® PB 582-H from DSM Engineering Plastics replaced rubber, the move yielded for a a weight reduction of 50% and cycle time reduction of 50% compared to rubber, which resulted in 0.6 Euro/part processing saving and a 0.8 Euro/part fuel saving (a total annual saving of 70.000 Euro for 50.000 parts).

AKULON XP FOR IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY IN PACKAGING FILMS

Akulon XP is well-established for food packaging applications DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced Akulon XP, a high productivity grade of PA6 for film applications. Akulon XP offers a broader processing window leading to more flexibility and more uniform thickness distribution in cast film, more melt strength and better parison stability leading to optimized LDPE/LLDPE ratio in multi-layer films without sacrificing the mechanical properties, more shear thinning than with standard PA6 enabling thus higher coating velocities possible and still absolutely gel free.

DSM INTRODUCES ARNITEL VAPOR TRANSMISSION FILMS

Arnitel Vapor Transmission films are ideally suited for roofing applications, textile applications and plasters and for medical gowns and drapes. DSM Engineering Plastics has introduced Arnitel VT for the manufacture of breathable films. Arnitel Vapor Transmission films are ideally suited for roofing applications, textile applications and plasters and for medical gowns and drapes.

HITACHI AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS EUROPE BENEFITS FROM FLOW, STRENGTH & DIMENSIONAL ACCURACY OF ARNITE® PBT

Intricate Audi engine mass airflow sensor body for Hitachi Automotive Systems Ltd. is made from Arnite® TV4 261. The 30% glass fiber reinforced injection moulding PBT resin provides a combination of properties important to the application, including excellent flow, long term dimensional stability, stiffness and strength over a wide temperature range and chemical resistance.Hitachi Automotive Systems Europe, Ltd., has selected a reinforced Arnite® polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) blend from DSM Engineering Plastics for injection moulded mass airflow sensor body destined for Audi engines. Arnite TV4 261 30% glass reinforced grade PBT provides a combination of properties important to the application, including excellent flow, long term dimensional stability, stiffness and strength over a wide temperature range and chemical resistance. Production requires only moulding – no annealing is required to relieve internal stresses that could lead to warpage.

STP-POLIMERI DEPENDS ON HEAT RESISTANT STANYL® PA46 FROM DSM FOR PROFESSIONAL INDUSTRIAL BRUSH MONOFILAMENT

Monofilament from Società Trasformazione Polimeri s.r.l., Rescaldina (MI) Italy, made from Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46) from DSM Engineering Plastics, stands up to the strength, durability and high heat requirements of professional and industrial brushes.Società Trasformazione Polimeri s.r.l., Rescaldina (MI) Italy, finds benefit from the high heat resistance and predictable bending stiffness of Stanyl® polyamide 4,6 (PA46) in the production of monofilament for industrial and professional brushes. This monofilament must retain strength in elevated temperatures, even when subjected to water, oils, chemicals and solvents.

STANYL® PA46 TAKES ON NEW LIFE – IN FIBRES AND FILMS

Airbag sewing thread application04 December, 2006 – Stanyl®, a high-heat polyamide 4,6 (PA46) resin from DSM Engineering Plastics, is adding a new market segment, fibre and film, to its existing broad portfolio of injection moulded, high-tech and high-heat engineered applications. As with injection moulded designs, Stanyl-based fibre and film benefit from the material’s unusually high crystallinity and resulting extraordinary mechanical properties, as well as its high melting point. In fibre and film, Stanyl adds a new side: it can be soft and supple.
