DSM partners with ERDA on engineering plastics and application research for the Indian electrical industry

Royal DSM, the global Life Sciences and Materials Sciences company, announces that its subsidiary DSM India Pvt. Ltd, in Pune, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ERDA, the Electrical Research & Development Association, covering basic research in the field of electrical applications. ERDA, a cooperative research institution created by the Indian electrical industry and utilities with support from the governments of India and the state of Gujarat, has its main office in Vadodara.

Mercedes-Benz has chosen a high performance polyamide largely made from renewable resources for the engine beauty cover of the brand-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Around 70% of the raw materials used to make the polyamide 410 in DSM’s EcoPaXX® Q-HGM24 reinforced compound are derived from the castor plant (Ricinus communis).

It is the first high temperature polyamide suitable for processing by extrusion-blow molding and with a significant cost benefit compared to PPS, thanks to its lower weight and scrap rate.

The material contains no PFCs (perfluorinated chemicals) and is 100% recyclable.
