SABIC launches multimillion euro investment at Geleen production site
Sittard, the Netherlands – May 9, 2012 – Over the next eighteen months, SABIC will invest 135 million euros in safety, energy conservation and the environment at their production site in Geleen. The goal of the investment is to ensure a safer, more competitive and more energy efficient cracker that is better for the environment. On April 11, an upgrade project was officially launched that will transform the Naphtha Olefins4 cracker into one of the best crackers in Europe in terms of safety, durability and cost efficiency. The Geleen investment fits in perfectly with SABIC’s growth strategy of becoming the market leader in the chemical industry.

Time to Market Cut as a Result of SABIC’s Precision Strain Hardening Test Method
Sittard, the Netherlands – May 7, 2012 – SABIC has developed a new method for high-speed evaluation of the slow crack growth resistance of high density polyethylene (HDPE) used for pressure pipes. The method will enable processors to benefit more quickly from new developments in general in HDPE for pipes, by cutting the time taken to bring a new material from the laboratory to the market.

SABIC’s bimodal HDPE family meets the increasing challenges of the film industry

SABIC’s Xenoy iQ* Resin Helps Canon Electronics Meet Global Customer Demand for Eco-Responsible Products with New Scanner Housing
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands – April 12, 2012 – At NPE 2012, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business announced that Canon Electronics Inc. – a global leader in imaging and optical products – has selected high-performance Xenoy iQ* ENH resin with up-cycled post-consumer recycled (PCR) content for the housing of its new “imageFORMULA DR-M160” high-speed document scanner. Canon Electronics previously used a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) material without any PCR content for its scanner housings. By upgrading to Xenoy iQ ENH resin, the company has advanced its sustainability strategy of developing environmentally conscious products that emphasize resource conservation and chemical substance control, among other goals. SABIC and Equipment Technologies Come Together to Create Coextruded Lexan* SLX and Cycoloy* Resin Hood for New Apache Agricultural Sprayer
BERGEN OP ZOOM, The Netherlands — April 10, 2012 — At NPE 2012, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business announced the use of their Lexan* and Cycoloy* resins in Equipment Technologies’ (ET) tough, optimally designed Apache agricultural sprayer hood. The new product was developed to help overcome performance issues associated with fiberglass and metal, such as cracking or fading from exposure to high temperatures and ultraviolet (UV) light. This collaboration between Equipment Technologies, Allen Extruders, LLC, AMD Plastics, and SABIC, uses Allen Extruders’ Alextra®-MV sheet – a material made with SABIC’s Lexan SLX resin coextruded over Cycoloy resin and is vacuum formed by AMD – to slash the weight by up to 140 lbs vs. previous fiberglass hoods. The development of the new sprayer hood demonstrates how SABIC supports customer success through a deep understanding of industry, product and value chain requirements.

SABIC Helps Volvo Trucks Accelerate Sustainability with Valox iQ* Resin, the First Up-cycled Plastic Resin Used in a North American Truck
ORLANDO, Florida (USA)– April 4, 2012 – Here at NPE 2012, Booth #29000, SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business announced a major new sustainability milestone with its longstanding customer, Volvo Trucks: the first use of an up-cycled material in a North American heavy truck from post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. Specifically, SABIC’s Valox iQ* polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) resin, which incorporates up-cycled water bottles, is used for the brackets of the side air deflection system for all seven models in the 2012 Volvo VN platform of heavy trucks. Valox iQ resin not only helps Volvo deliver top performance under harsh driving conditions, but also contributes toward greater sustainability. Additional SABIC solutions used to further enhance sustainability and performance in Volvo VN trucks include lightweight Noryl GTX* resin for the fenders, tough Cycoloy* resin for the grille and clear Lexan* resin for forward lighting. This joint achievement by Volvo Trucks and SABIC is the latest in a series of standard-raising innovations delivering environmental benefits.

SABIC Expands Renowned Lexan* Polycarbonate Portfolio with New High-End Materials for Consumer Electronics, Appliances and LED Lighting
