World premiere in Overijssel: The first PlasticRoad bike path comes in Zwolle
The PlasticRoad, a road made of recycled plastic, becomes a reality. The municipality of Zwolle and the province of Overijssel have committed to the first PlasticRoad pilot project. In September the first PlasticRoad will be constructed in Zwolle and in another location in the province a few months later. The PlasticRoad concept was launched in 2015 by market leader in road construction KWS (a subsidiary of Royal VolkerWessels). In 2016, KWS entered into a partnership with Wavin and Total for further development of the PlasticRoad.

Vorwerk selects ELIX 5120 premium ABS-Blend for Thermomix food processor – and awards “A” supplier status to ELIX Polymers
Vorwerk Elektrowerke GmbH has selected ELIX ABS-Blend 5120 for the control panel housing of its new Thermomix TM5 food processor. ABS Blend E.5120 is produced by ELIX Polymers S.L., a leading manufacturer of ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) resins and derivatives in Europe.
Thermoplastic honeycomb core production technology provider EconCore will unveil its latest successes at NPE2018, running from May 7 to 11 in Orlando, FL. The Belgian company, which licenses its ThermHex technology around the world for production of polypropylene (PP) honeycombs and sandwich materials, will also provide information on an elaboration of its process capabilities that enables production of honeycombs in high performance thermoplastics. A further development enables the integrated production of what it terms organosandwich — honeycomb cores with continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic skins.

SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, is releasing here at JEC World 2018 in stand L84, hall 5, the results of a recent lifecycle assessment of passenger car side doors using hybrid material solutions including laminates made with its continuous fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite (CFRTC), the UDMAX™ GPP 45-70 tape. The material system aims to help improve compliance with stringent energy and emissions regulations. The externally certified, cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment (LCA) found that doors made with the glass fiber polypropylene-reinforced composites outperformed metal car doors in two key environmental categories: global warming potential and cumulative energy demand. In addition to weighing significantly less than steel, aluminum and magnesium, the CFRTC parts deliver exceptional strength, corrosion resistance and the ability to be produced in high volumes using injection molding.
Thermoplastic composites are prized for their light weight and exceptional strength. However, mainstream adoption has lagged due to shortcomings in existing production processes, which are slow, costly, and labor- and waste-intensive.
