Shanghai China, (July 17, 2007) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has announced its first sale of a mercury emissions monitoring system in China. The sale of a Thermo Scientific Mercury Freedom System™ was made to Tsinghua University, a leading polytechnic institution in Beijing. The university will perform laboratory research and preliminary testing of mercury emissions monitoring in China using the Thermo Scientific system. The system is later slated for installation in one of China’s coal-fired power plants. Recent statistics show that a new coal-fired power plant goes on line every ten days in China.

GE’s LNP* Verton* Xtreme compound portfolio has broken new ground with one-pellet solutions for enhanced color, flame retardance (FR), and weatherability. This patent-pending technology improves batch-to-batch consistency and within individual parts by eliminating the need to blend two pellet types, which can lead to separation, settling, and other quality issues. LNP Verton Xtreme compound grades – XC for extreme color, XFR for extreme flame retardance, and XW for extreme weatherability – enable customers to achieve the excellent mechanical properties of long-glass-fiber reinforcement while boosting quality and consistency that can reduce overall system costs. 
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — June 19, 2007 — GE Plastics today introduced a new family of flame-retardant Valox* thermoplastic polyester resins aimed at helping electrical/electronics (E/E) manufacturers and suppliers comply with regulations restricting use and disposal of hazardous substances. Further, Valox ENH resin - an environmentally progressive resin that meets the requirements for halogen-free parts - is based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), delivering better ductility and strength than other environmentally responsible flame-retardant PBT materials, and better electrical properties than standard flame-retardant PBT materials. 
BERGEN OP ZOOM, THE NETHERLANDS — June 11, 2007 — GE Plastics today launched a new portfolio of high-tech LNP* Starflam* compounds that provide excellent flammability performance while meeting the requirements of halogen-free parts. The LNP X-Gen Starflam Z270 family of fiber-reinforced polyamides supports compliance with the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronics Equipment (WEEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations, and other environmental requirements. The new products offer high-end mechanical and electrical properties that exceed those of traditional materials that use brominated and red phosphorus additives, and provide easy processing, excellent surface appearance, and the ability to be laser marked for labeling purposes.
